What We Collect

Location Data

Sunio uses your location to calculate sun position and times for where you are.

• Processed entirely on your device
• Never sent to our servers
• Never stored
• Never shared
• Optional — you can use the app without granting location access

Search History

When you search for locations, we save your last 5 searches on your device only.

• Stored locally using iOS SwiftData
• Never leaves your device
• You can clear it anytime
• Not backed up to iCloud

Camera Access (AR Feature)

The AR feature uses your camera to overlay sun position information.

• Camera feed is processed in real-time on your device
• No photos or videos are captured or stored
• Nothing is transmitted or saved

Crash Data

We collect anonymous crash reports through Firebase Crashlytics to fix bugs.

• Device model and iOS version
• App version and crash logs
• No personal information
• No location data
• Completely anonymous

Third-Party Services

Sunio uses these services to function:

Mapbox

Provides 3D maps, terrain visualization, and building shadows.

• May collect anonymous map usage data (tile requests, zoom levels)
• Does not collect personal information

Apple Services

We use Apple's MapKit for location search and CoreLocation for GPS.

• Search queries processed by Apple
• Subject to Apple's privacy policy

Firebase Crashlytics

Google's crash reporting service.

• Collects anonymous crash data

How We Use Data

The minimal data we process is used only to:

• Calculate sun position, sunrise, sunset, and solar times
• Render 3D terrain and building shadows
• Provide location search
• Fix crashes and improve stability

What We Don't Collect

Sunio does NOT collect:

• Your name, email, or phone number
• Location history or movement patterns
• Photos or videos from your camera
• Usage analytics or behavior tracking
• Advertising IDs
• Contacts, photos, or other device data
• Payment information (handled by Apple if applicable)

Data Sharing

We don't sell, rent, or share your data. Period.

The only data sharing that occurs:

• Mapbox and Apple process map and search requests as described above
• We may disclose data if required by law

Your Control

Location: Control in Settings → Sunio → Location. You can deny access and still use the app by searching manually.

Search History: Clear anytime in the app. Delete the app to remove everything.

Crash Reports: Disable in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

Children's Privacy

Sunio is rated 4+ and safe for children. We don't collect personal information from anyone, including children. No accounts, no social features, no ads. Complies with COPPA.

International Use

Sunio works worldwide. All processing happens on your device, regardless of where you are. Third-party services (Mapbox, Apple) may process data according to their policies.

California Privacy (CCPA)

California residents have these rights:

• Right to know: We collect minimal anonymous data only
• Right to delete: Delete the app to remove all data
• Right to opt-out: We don't sell personal information

European Privacy (GDPR)

EU users have these rights:

• Legal basis: Legitimate interest (app functionality) and consent (location)
• Access: All data is on your device
• Erasure: Delete the app
• Portability: Data stored in standard iOS formats

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy. Changes will be posted here with a new date. Continued use means you accept the changes.
